WITH GOD'S CRAFTSMANSHIP, my wife and I created two children—who are girls. I was awed when I saw the nine-month process to completion the first time. I was there. I was looking right at my daughter. Her eyes opened widely at the same moment she drew her first breath. She was alive! What a rush for me!

Mom? Mom was put to work almost immediately, nursing her newborn —after a 15-hour labor.

A couple of years later, the same process. The same outcome. This girl was a completely different person from her mother or sister. My wife was now a mother of two. The girls grew up, married, and had children. Same process.

Everybody on this planet knows, especially women, that men, including myself, contribute very little toward this enormous undertaking of creating human beings and then “mothering” them.

Women are TOTALLY committed.

I continue to be awed at what mothers CAN do, and do, especially in the long run.

Someone may ask, "Women have babies all the time. What’s the big deal?"

As this testosterone-laden being stood in a gathering of estrogen yesterday—most of them mothers—I was amazed at the powerful connection these ladies had with each other. They were focused on the mother-to-be with empathy and love. It was more than that, but I don't know what to call it.

Sometimes everyday things are so common we fail to see the WONDER even though we’re looking right at it.

I understand the baby-making process, but I can never know the depths of the love and connection to her children that mothers have. And from what I have observed over time, it only grows stronger. Mothers know!

I read several comments from women who wrote of motherhood. This one best summarized them all:

“While most mothers describe caring for a family as “hard work” and making decisions affecting family well-being as “difficult,” and admit that it can be quite “painful” or “hurtful” at times as well, most acknowledge they are thankful they’d had the chance to do so and would do so again “in a heartbeat.”

I am amazed at mothers. You earn your day every day. I Hope today is truly a Happy one for you.
