“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the crushed in spirit.” ~ Psalm 34:18

There are seasons when strength feels like a rumor; something other people talk about, something you once knew but can’t quite remember how to reach.

In those moments, the heart doesn’t merely ache; it breaks. The spirit doesn’t just bend; it feels crushed under the weight of grief, regret, disappointment, exhaustion.

Don’t make the mistake of rushing past that reality. God doesn’t tell us to be brave, to cheer up, or to try harder. Instead, He meets us where we are.

He draws near, not to the impressive or the composed, but to the brokenhearted. Near, not distant, not watching from afar, but close enough to hear the quietest sigh, close enough to notice the tears we never explain, and sometimes just withhold.

To be “crushed in spirit” is to feel emptied or worn thin. Nothing left inside. This is the place where God chooses to save us. Not after we recover. Not once we stand again.

But in the very place of our undoing.

God’s nearness is not a reward for faithfulness; it is a response to need. When we have nothing left to offer but our pain, our sadness, our “how did it come to this” moments, He offers Himself.

When words fail, His presence speaks. When hope feels lost, His saving work begins—quietly, slowly, and always faithfully.

My friends, if today you feel broken, you are not abandoned. If you feel crushed, you are not overlooked. According to this promise, YOU ARE CLOSER TO GOD THAN YOU MAY REALIZE.

He doesn’t wait for you to be whole again. He is already near—holding what hurts, restoring what has been pressed down, and saving you in ways only Love can.

Rest there. Breathe. You are not alone.
