CHOSEN

TO BE CHOSEN means to be selected as the best or most fitting. We often think of our careers in that way—as something we chose or were chosen for. But in the unpredictable world of work, the idea of choosing can bring up all sorts of feelings.

Remember in elementary school how important it was to be picked first for the team? That usually meant you were the best—or at least the best friend of the one doing the choosing. I still vividly recall being chosen for a choral group I dreamed of joining, and later, a country band I loved performing with.

Those moments brought joy to my younger years, shaping memories that are still with me.

Think back to that one job you really wanted. When you got it—or even better, when you were chosen for a promotion—wasn’t it a moment of pure pride?

Maybe you were the one someone chose to marry. There’s something incredibly special about that kind of belonging—to feel seen, valued, and loved by someone you adore. That feeling only deepens when you bring a child into the world together—a tiny, perfect reflection of the love between two people. Becoming a grandparent makes those feelings grow exponentially. Being chosen like that can become one of the most beautiful, enduring parts of life.

Who we are, how we look, when we were born, and even the friends who cross our path—these are all part of the larger journey of being chosen. Sometimes, the people who feel closest aren’t even related by blood, but they’re still family in every way that matters.

We often forget how magical that is. As children, we were full of wonder, always curious about the world. Somewhere along the way, we get used to things and forget to marvel at them.

But here’s a thought: You and I were chosen to be alive right now. Ever wonder why?

I do. A lot.

I don’t fully understand it, and maybe I never will—but there’s comfort in knowing we’re part of something greater. Something designed by the Creator of the universe. I can’t always grasp what He’s showing me, but that only deepens my desire to understand.

According to the Bible, we are all part of this ancient and intentional plan. We were handpicked to be here, now. In 2 Timothy 1:9, it says:

“It is He who saved us and chose us for His holy work—not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan, long before the world began—to show His love and kindness to us through Christ.”

That’s a powerful reminder:

We weren’t just randomly placed here. We were chosen.
